Welcome to the World of Biblical Prophecy for History and Today

This Blog is intended to help myself and others gain the best understanding of the world around us through exploration of prophetic scripture. The Bible is the text book. Through these studies we will hopefully provide understanding to both believer and unbeliever alike. The way our God and our Savior Jesus distinguish themselves in the spiritual world is through prophetic means. In other words what the Bible teaches us through fullfillment of these prophecies shows us the truth. Let's take some prophetic journeys through history and at the same time learn about the world around us today. Please try and be patient with any typographical errors as I am my own typist and my own research staff. Thanks

Ezekiel 38:17 What Do We Know about Gog?

Luk 10:18 KJV And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Joh 12:20-32 KJV And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: (21) The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. (22) Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. (23) And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. (24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (25) He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. (26) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (27) Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. (28) Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. (29) The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. (30) Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. (31) Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (32) And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Joh 14:22-31 KJV Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? (23) Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (24) He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. (25) These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. (26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (27) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (28) Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (29) And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. (30) Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. (31) But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Joh 16:7-12 KJV Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (8) And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (9) Of sin, because they believe not on me; (10) Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; (11) Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. (12) I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Eph 6:10-24 KJV Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (19) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (20) For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (21) But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: (22) Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts. (23) Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (24) Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. To the Ephesians written from Rome, by Tychicus.

Eph 6:12 KJV For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Rev 20:6-15 KJV Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. (7) And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, (8) And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. (9) And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (10) And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (11) And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Rev 20:7-8 KJV And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, (8) And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Eze 38:14-18 KJV Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? (15) And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: (16) And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. (17) Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them? (18) And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.

(Eze 38:17 KJV) Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

Our focus here is with Ezekiel 38:17. The opening passages from our Lord and Savior Jesus among other things all mention the prince of this world. The judgment thereof is also contained. This is just one aspect that we will connect about Gog and how for lack of a better word “his” demise is included in this respect. There is a very interesting question that seems to pop up as we read the verse. That is just what do the servants or prophets of Israel tell us about Gog. We will explore this in hopes that we can answer some other questions some may have about Gog as well. These include what is Gog exactly? What does the emergence of his name mean in the book of Revelation? Thanks to some schooling with Chuck Missler and Perry Stone to name a couple of people some very new light was shown about this through the Holy Spirit. For a few verses we will explore what surface reading of the scripture tells us and what the Greek Septuagint translation also tells us about Gog.

The first verse which mentions Gog in the Bible is found in the chronology of Reuben. Some may feel that this does not have much to do with anything. However the names and some places we explore show some interesting echoes through history.

1Ch 5:1-6 KJV Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. (2) For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:) (3) The sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. (4) The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, (5) Micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son, (6) Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

In this passage we are given the sons and grandsons of Reuben. There are some interesting things we can make note of. If not mistaken it appears that we have a great great grandson named Gog. If not mistaken it appears that we find the 8th generational grandson is named Baal. What makes these 2 things interesting one could say is that both names have to do with very negative aspects of prophecy. Gog of course we have been looking into for some while now and Baal a false god worshiped by the Canaanites which we know has been a cause and effect of judgment throughout the OT.

(5) Micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son,H1168

H1168
בּעל
ba‛al

The same as H1167; Baal, a Phoenician deity: - Baal, [plural] Baalim.

BDB Definition:
Baal = “lord”
1) supreme male divinity of the Phoenicians or Canaanites (noun proper masculine)
2) a Reubenite (noun proper masculine)
3) the son of Jehiel and grandfather of Saul (noun proper masculine)
4) a town of Simeon, probably identical to Baalath-beer (noun proper locative)

Part of Speech: see above in Definition
Jdg 2:11-14 KJV And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: (12) And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger. (13) And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. (14) And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

There are many other instances where these actions are repeated. We just want to make sure that any one can get the picture. Just a quick piece of food for thought here does this sound a little like home?
1Ch 5:6 KJV Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

1Ch 5:23-26 KJV And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon. (24) And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers. (25) And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them. (26) And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

2Ki 15:27-29 KJV In the two and fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years. (28) And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. (29) In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

With the help of some more study aids from e sword we can capture a brief history of king Pul from Assyria. We will use the reference from the New Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary. We will shorten it to NNIBD for our future references.

Pul
PUL [pool] — the name of a man and a place in the Old Testament:1. An Assyrian king who invaded Israel during the reign of King Menahem. When Menahem paid tribute to Pul, giving him 1,000 talents of silver (2Ki_15:19), Pul withdrew his army from Israel (v. 2Ki_15:20). Pul did, however, carry the tribes east of the Jordan River into captivity (1Ch_5:26). Pul is the same person as Tiglath-Pileser III. Tiglath-Pileser was the throne-name he bore as king of Assyria; Pul was the throne-name he bore in Babylonia as king of Babylon.

There are some reasons that this becomes important as the history unfolds concerning Assyrian involvement. That is to say how the Assyrian empire by prophetic pattern intertwines with Ezekiel 38 and 39.
2Ki 23:23-35 KJV But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, wherein this passover was holden to the LORD in Jerusalem. (24) Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD. (25) And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him. (26) Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal. (27) And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there. (28) Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? (29) In his days Pharaohnechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him. (30) And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead. (31) Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. (32) And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done. (33) And Pharaohnechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold. (34) And Pharaohnechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there. (35) And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaohnechoh.

Now as always some may be asking ok brother Al so what’s the point? Well if you pay attention to current events then we know that Egypt and Syria are all over the news currently for the internal chaos within each nation respectively. The location of the prophetic warfare taking place in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is in and all about Megiddo. If you are a regular here on the page then we also know that we have been paying particular attention to prophetic details concerning how Syria could be the hook in the jaw of Gog which will drag Gog into the battle. This mostly in part to the historical knowledge of how the Assyrian empire led their captives and exiles away by placing hooks either in the jaws or noses of them. Now let’s get back toward the direction we are actually trying to go in.

Eze 38:1-4 KJV And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, (2) Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, (3) And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: (4) And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

If you remember our look into the conspiracy fact found in Psalm 83 we found a list of nations coming against Israel and in verse 8 we find Assyria.

Psa 83:1-8 KJV A Song or Psalm of Asaph. Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. (2) For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. (3) They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. (4) They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. (5) For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: (6) The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; (7) Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; (8) Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

It could easily be said that out of this particular list in its present tense Syria could be considered the most powerful militarily or shall we say weapons capable among these. The recent use of chemical weapons by someone in Syria shall we say has drawn a great deal of attention from Russian president Mr. Putin. Once again if you are somewhat regular to the page then you know many of the prophetic pointers indicate that this could very easily be where Gog comes from. Now before you start saying that I am calling Mr. Putin “Gog” please stop. What is easily seen, understood and predicted in the Bible however dictates that somewhere out of the nearby vicinity of Russia a spiritual possession overtakes a leader if not already so.

Eze 38:14-17 KJV Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?

This is where we will begin putting forth what scholars have found out about the prophets and Gog. We mentioned with our opening passages by Jesus the history of Satan’s fall and his ultimate outcome.
Luk 10:18 KJV And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Joh 12:31 KJV Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Joh 14:30 KJV Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

Joh 16:11 KJV Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Eph 6:12 KJV For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Rev 12:7-9 KJV And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

This pertains to Gog in the sense that when we see verse like Ephesians 6:12 and remember a few verses from Daniel 10
Dan 10:11-13 KJV And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. (12) Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. (13) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

We can easily identify what Gog is. We see this in the very words God gave to Ezekiel himself to pen for us.
Eze 38:1-3 KJV And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, (2) Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, (3) And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

Eze 39:1 KJV Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

We also note there is a definite judgment associated with these principality spirits.

2Pe 2:4 KJV For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hellG5020, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

G5020
ταρταρόωtartaroo
tar-tar-o'-oFrom Τάρταρος Tartaros̄ (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: - cast down to hell.

Just as Michael is described as a chief prince we developed in part in our Daniel Extremity 10 study how the empires that ruled biblical prophecy respectively had a chief principality spirit overshadowing Satan’s plan.

So now we can see what exactly Gog is and in truth this is probably the easiest of our questions we answer. The next we will take upon is what do the prophets tell us about Gog?

As we mentioned in the opening stages we will be looking into a translation of the OT to the Greek language. This is known as the Septuagint translation. The easiest way to explain is using Webster’s 1828 dictionary.

Septuagint

SEP'TUAGINT, n. [L. septuaginta, seventy; septem, seven, and some word signifying ten.] A Greek version of the Old Testament, so call because it was the work of seventy, or rather of seventy-two interpreters. This translation from the Hebrew is supposed have been made in the reign and by the order of Ptolemy Philadelphus, king of Egypt, about two hundred and seventy or eighty years before the birth of Christ.

SEP'TUAGINT, a. Pertaining to the Septuagint; contained in the Greek copy of the Old Testament.

The Septuagint chronology makes fifteen hundred years more from the creation to Abraham, than the present Hebrew copies of the Bible. Encyc.

What is interesting about the Septuagint translation are the 2 verses where we find Gog mentioned. Once again with our e sword we can use the Brenton’s translation of the Septuagint. It’s dated 1844. Our first passage is from Numbers 24.

Num 24:1-7 Brenton And when Balaam saw that it pleased God to bless Israel, he did not go according to his custom to meet the omens, but turned his face toward the wilderness. (2) And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and sees Israel encamped by their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him. (3) And he took up his parable and said, Balaam son of Beor says, the man who sees truly says, (4) he says who hears the oracle of the Mighty One, who saw a vision of God in sleep; his eyes were opened: (5) How goodly are thy habitations, Jacob, and thy tents, Israel! (6) as shady groves, and as gardens by a river, and as tents which God pitched, and as cedars by the waters. (7) There shall come a man out of his seed, and he shall rule over many nations; and the kingdom of GogG1136 shall be exalted, and his kingdom shall be increased.

In order to perform our word study let’s include the Greek Septuagint with strong’s numbers of this verse.

It’s here in verse 7 we find a mention of the word Gog. Just for proper comparison we can put the KJV of verse 7.

Num 24:7 KJV He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

Of course Agag was the king Saul spared against God’s word and ultimately among many other things led to Sauls’ death. Now let’s explore the word Gog for a few moments.

G1136
Γώγ
Gōg
gogue
Of Hebrew origin [H1463]; Gog, a symbolic name for some future Antichrist: - Gog.

G1136
Γώγ
Gōg
Thayer Definition:
Gog = “mountain”
1) the king of the land of Magog who will come from the north and attack the land of Israel

Part of Speech: noun proper locative

G1136
Γώγ
Gōg; proper noun transliterated from the Hebr. Gōg (H1463). Gog, mentioned in Eze_38:2 as "Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince," also referred to as the prince of Rosh, believed by many to refer to Russia. The Sept. translators understood Magog as a people, not as a country. The ancients understood Magog to refer to the northern nations which they also called Skúthai (G4658), Scythians. In Rev_20:8 we find Gog and Magog after the millennium coming in great military power against the holy city, the New Jerusalem.

Now we must say about this God knows exactly what we have to read and to study. God is the one who told us about the prophets concerning Gog. This is of course not the only verse where the word Gog appears. A very interesting passage from Amos tells more than a glance might allow.

Amo 7:1-4 Brenton Thus has the Lord God shewed me; and, behold, a swarm of locustsG200 coming from the east; and, behold, one caterpillar, king Gog. (2) And it came to pass when he had finished devouring the grass of the land, that I said, Lord God, be merciful; who shall raise up Jacob? for he is small in number. (3) Repent, O Lord, for this. And this shall not be, saith the Lord. (4) Thus has the Lord shewed me; and, behold, the Lord called for judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and devoured the Lord's portion.

Amo 7:1-2 KJV Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppersH1462 in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowingsH1488. (2) And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
We have some very interesting word study (s) here indeed to say the least. They will represent some very deep symbolizations of what is going to happen as it is said here in scripture. To show that we are not playing tricks with your mind here let’s take 2 verses from the book of Revelation. The verses contain the word locusts.

H697
ארבּה
'arbeh
ar-beh'
From H7235; a locust (from its rapid increase): - grasshopper, locust.

The Hebrew here for locusts is different from the spiritual variety in word study. However demonic locusts on the other hand would have a spiritual king or leader and that would be Satan. This is the message portrayed by Amos by informing us of a youthful grasshopper or larva being the caterpillar stage.

Amo 7:1-4 Brenton Thus has the Lord God shewed me; and, behold, a swarm of locustsG200 coming from the east; and, behold, one caterpillar, king Gog.

G200
ἀκρίς

ak-rece'
Apparently from the same as G206; a locust (as pointed, or as lighting on the top of vegetation): - locust.

G200

Thayer Definition:
1) a locust, particularly that species which especially infests oriental countries, stripping fields and trees. Numberless swarms of them almost every spring are carried by the wind from Arabia into Palestine, and having devastated that country, migrate to regions farther north, until they perish by falling into the sea. The Orientals accustomed to feed upon locusts, either raw or roasted and seasoned with salt (or prepared in other ways), and the Israelites also were permitted to eat them.

Please take note that the stages that insects go through are what’s being described.
This is where the Hebrew word study comes into play.

Amo 7:1-2 KJV Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppersH1462 in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowingsH1488.

If you read these out carefully then we get the sense that this is not just about destruction of crops in the physical sense. There is an association to the figurative destruction to an enemy. It’s interesting since we know for a fact just from our reading in Ezekiel 38 alone that Gog is an enemy to God’s chosen people. Therefore they are an enemy to the chosen people of Jesus. AMEN

Mat 10:30-34 KJV But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. (31) Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. (32) Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. (33) But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. (34) Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Let’s explore the passage from the Septuagint now.

Amo 7:1 Brenton Thus has the Lord God shewed me; and, behold, a swarm of locusts coming from the east; and, behold, one caterpillar, king Gog.

Let’s take a look at the Webster’s definition for a caterpillar.
Caterpillar

CATERPILLAR, n. The colored and often hairy larva of the lepidopterous insects. This term is also applied to the larvas of other insects, such as the Tenthredo, or saw-fly; but is more generally confined to the lepidopters. Caterpillars are produced immediately from the egg; they are furnished with several pairs of feet, and have the shape and appearance of a worm. They contain the embryo of the perfect insect, inclosed within a muscular envelop, which is thrown off, when the insect enters the nymph or chrysalis state, in which it remains for sometime as if inanimate. It then throws off its last envelop, and emerges a perfect insect. Caterpillars generally feed on leaves or succulent vegetables, and are sometimes very destructive.

This makes things according to what we know about Gog very interesting. One thing people should be aware of is that the people of the day when all these things were written were very understanding to the phases that these insects go through. What we have now with this chief principality spirit Gog is a youthful leader of a youthful country. Someone who might be reckoned along the lines of a Vladimir Putin who by all means according to the “experts” just recently won the hearts and minds of a majority of middle east nations. We are not going there right now but the world is no doubt falling right into the makings for all this prophecy to take place. Remember also that Gog is not the antichrist but he is described as a type of antichrist. Gog is also listed as a separate entity. In order to explain this we can again use our word study.

Rev 20:7-8 KJV And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, (8) And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Rev 20:7-8 KJV+ AndG2532 whenG3752 theG3588 thousandG5507 yearsG2094 are expired,G5055 SatanG4567 shall be loosedG3089 out ofG1537 hisG846 prison,G5438 (8) AndG2532 shall go outG1831 to deceiveG4105 theG3588 nationsG1484 whichG3588 are inG1722 theG3588 fourG5064 quartersG1137 of theG3588 earth,G1093 GogG1136 andG2532 Magog,G3098 to gather them togetherG4863 G846 toG1519 battle:G4171 theG3588 numberG706 of whomG3739 is asG5613 theG3588 sandG285 of theG3588 sea.G2281

We simply wanted to demonstrate the difference that is clear between Satan and Gog. With these passages however we can explore another matter we mentioned in our beginning. What is this appearance of Gog and its connections to the loosening of Satan. Satan, Gog and Magog are all mentioned here. The best explanation found so far is in the fact that there will be a world of untested people. This world will be separate and hidden from the kingdom and continuing to populate and so forth. It appears that at the end of this millennial reign with Jesus these folks will get a chance to choose their spiritual destiny. This would be no different than the world we are experiencing now. It looks as though when Satan is released that this chief principality spirit is also brought out in order to accomplish this measure. As always though you are free to decide for yourself.

Luk 21:25-28 KJV And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; (26) Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (27) And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (28) And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
