Why we have faith in hope, Heaven and justice
Joh 5:24-29 KJV
(24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
(25) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
(26) For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
(27) And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

In our look at verse 1 we explored what Daniel was allowed to see by God in relation to what is referred to as trouble which has never been before. He was very specific about the mentioning of some of the nations as well. The attentions of the world becoming focused upon the people of Israel. The archangel Michael will deliver the victorious spiritual defeat of powers which are unseen yet controlling the world. We cannot and must not overlook the fact that as Israel encounters more and more trouble that the world will also undergo the birth pains of tribulation.
Here in verse 2 we pick up with the subject of resurrection and judgment. As we will explore Daniel not only focuses on the negative but the positive outcome for those of us who believe.
There are 3 angles that we can pursue the subject matter of verse 2 with. Granted we have only 2 specifically mentioned in the verse. However there is a subject we will not address in detail at this time that is very much associated to the moments Daniel reveals in this prophecy. That subject and our get out of jail free card if you please as believers is called the rapture. The rapture is an event that will no doubt take place in prophecy. Granted many people doubt this event and preach against it and why this is so is difficult to determine. The reason it is being brought into the study at this time is due to the fact that many of the NT as well as OT passages that connect the resurrection include references to the rapture. The entire study we will put forth concerning the rapture will be separate but will also include some of the passages we will explore here in Daniel Extremity 12:2.
One of the very first journeys taken on this web site was titled “The Most Important Thing: Conquering Death and Sin Jesus and Genesis 1”. The passage here in Daniel 2 gets right to the point of resurrection and judgment. One of the most important if not the most important miracle which we base our faith upon is he resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus. As a matter of fact this very subject is addressed by Paul in the book of 1st Corinthians.

(12) Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
(13) But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
(14) And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
(15) Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

Indeed if we have no faith in the resurrection then our hopes for conquering our sins which we are all guilty of have no basis.

(23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
(24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

The resurrection is a subject familiar to both Testaments. There are many churches and individuals who believe and teach against the OT. This is incorrect as Jesus' own words teach us.
Mat 5:16-19 KJV
(16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
(17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
(18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
(19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven
As we did in the journey through verse 1 we can detail some scriptures pertaining to the resurrection starting with some OT prophecies. Perhaps one of the oldest mentions of the resurrection is found in the book of Job.
Job 19:23-27 KJV
(23) Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
(24) That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
(25) For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
(26) And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
(27) Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
It would appear that Job was well aware that we have great things in store for us in an afterlife. This book of the Bible is generally accepted by scholars to be one of the oldest. Many skeptics of the Bible often cite the so called fact that early ancestors of our biblical history were to primitive to have accomplished many of the things that scripture informs us about. However as many scholars and skeptics ponder and debate about life after death we have a man who is considered to be of the earliest periods of biblical history who has the answer. This is called faith.
Psa 49:12-20 KJV
(12) Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
(13) This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
(14) Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
(15) But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
(16) Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
(17) For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
(18) Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
(19) He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
(20) Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
It seems pretty clear according to verse 15 the Psalmist understood the purpose of the resurrection. This Psalm explains how a man could gain everything in the worldly sense but without understanding his true place in life with God will not receive the redemption and gift of eternal life. Jesus also supports this passage in the parable of the rich man.

(15) And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
(16) And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
(17) And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
(18) And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
(19) And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
(20) But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
(21) So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Ezekiel receives a prophecy from the Lord in chapter 37. This is a chapter known as the prophecy of the valley of the dry bones. In this prophecy Ezekiel is given a look into the future of the nation of Israel in the sense of being reborn which we have spent a good bit of time looking into. Again looking at the dual relationship of prophetic scripture we gain an understanding of the restoration of Israel as well as the resurrection of the body.

(1) The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,
(2) And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
(3) And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

This is just another of infinite reasons we can trust in God. The spiritual act of raising the bones of Israel from non existent to the nation we have seen develop over the last 62 years. As we have covered in many different parts of our studies the restoration of Israel 14 May 1948 can be looked to as one of the most important and indisputable fulfillment of prophecy leading us to the return of the Lord and our spiritual reawakening.

Then of course we have the perfect example of what we are looking into. The story of Lazarus being called forth from the grave.

(4) When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
(5) Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
(6) When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

(11) These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
(12) Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
(13) Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
(14) Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
(15) And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Jesus explains that He could have healed Lazarus from his sickness. However Jesus knew that raising someone from the grave would shape belief. This belief being that we have life after death. The belief in the power of God and the ease which He can raise us up from the grave.

(24) Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

(42) And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

In our first look of chapter 12 we discovered Daniel describing a time of trouble specifically
involving the nation of Israel. However as we moved further into the prophecy we explored how this time of Jacob's trouble expands to a global situation. Here in verse 2 we have been exploring the resurrection of the dead. These are events that fall into a chronological order with end time events and also the judgment of both good and bad, belief and unbelief. Also another aspect to all this is seen as an escape from the war torn conflict filled world which we have been exploring. In addition there will be persecution of believers which is already happening in great numbers outside the United States.
Isa 26:12-21 KJV
(12) LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
(13) O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
(14) They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
(15) Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth.
(16) LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.
(17) Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
(18) We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
(19) Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
(20) Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation(H2195)
be overpast.
(21) For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
In the last 3 verses of this passage we get a clear picture of both the dead and the living escaping the problems that have been and will be happening. Let's explore the word indignation a little further to get just a little more insight.

Psa 27:1-9 KJV

(3) Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
(4) One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

It appears that both Isaiah and the Psalmist are referring at least in part to the living as well as the dead. Now no doubt people will ask how do we know this? If a person has fallen asleep or experienced death which ever you prefer they would not be concerned with what is going on in the day of trouble. In other words they would be alive due to resurrection or taken alive into heaven. This would lead to watching these events unfold from Heaven. This is most certainly going to be the case according to Paul.
1Co 15:39-58 KJV
(39) All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
(40) There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
(41) There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
(42) So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
(43) It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
(44) It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

These are passages which will be revisited in our studies of the rapture unless we are gone before we can get to them. In closing out this particular journey we can look once more at Daniel 12:2.

(5) But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
(6) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
