Heb 11:1-6 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (2) For by it the elders obtained a good report. On our journey through the scripture concerning the rapture we will take a turn back to the earliest recorded genealogical history associated with time Genesis 5. We will not be concerned with all the names and generations. We will be taking a look at what some call the earliest prophet in the Bible a man named Enoch. The reason some refer to him as such a prophet is found in the book of Jude in the NT. Personally the heart felt belief that all of the names involved had some form of knowledge of God’s plans for redemption. However without question Enoch is the shining pinnacle of diligence to this point in history with God. As we also will discover he is going to very much be a part of the subject we are studying the rapture or catching away.

As we can see there are many different ways the word walked can be applied. All would seem to fit what we know about Enoch.

There are some common qualities between Enoch and Jesus. Enoch was a zealot for learning the ways of God. This made him a great teacher of righteousness. Enoch and Jesus share the same genealogical history as well. In Luke’s genealogy we can discover an interesting pattern.

Luk 3:37-38 KJV Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, (38) Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
If my math is correct Jesus is the 77th in the list of names. What does this have to do with anything? Perhaps not much but it should be stressed that Enoch as Jude tells us was the 7th in the list from Adam. Let’s look at a little portion of the ISBE concerning the ritual uses of the number 7. In the for what it’s worth department there are 70 generations between each of them. As we sometimes discover especially with prophetic studies the number 70 had a special significance.
The number 7 plays a conspicuous part in a multitude of passages giving rules for worship or purification, or recording ritual actions. The 7th day of the week was holy (see SABBATH). There were 7 days of unleavened bread (Exo_34:18, etc.), and 7 days of the Feast of Tabernacles (Lev_23:34). The 7th year was the sabbatical year (Exo_21:2, etc.). The Moabite Balak built Balaam on three occasions 7 altars and provided in each case 7 bullocks and 7 rams (Num_23:1, Num_23:14, Num_23:29). The Mosaic law prescribed 7 he-lambs for several festal offerings (Num_28:11, Num_28:19, Num_28:27, etc.). The 7-fold sprinkling of blood is enjoined in the ritual of the Day of Atonement (Lev_16:14, Lev_16:19), and elsewhere. Seven-fold sprinkling is also repeatedly mentioned in the rules for the purification of the leper and the leprous house (Lev_14:7, Lev_14:16, Lev_14:27, Lev_14:51). The leprous Naaman was ordered to bathe 7 times in the Jordan (2Ki_5:10). In cases of real or suspected uncleanness through leprosy, or the presence of a corpse, or for other reasons, 7 days' seclusion was necessary (Lev_12:2, etc.). Circumcision took place after 7 days (Lev_12:3). An animal must be 7 days old before it could be offered in sacrifice (Exo_22:30). Three periods of 7 days each are mentioned in the rules for the consecration of priests (Exo_29:30, Exo_29:35, Exo_29:37). An oath seems to have been in the first instance by 7 holy things (Gen_21:29 ff and the Hebrew word for “swear”). The number 7 also entered into the structure of sacred objects, for instance the candlestick or lamp-stand in the tabernacle and the second temple each of which had 7 lights (Num_8:2; Zec_4:2). Many other instances of the ritual use of 7 in the Old Testament and many instructive parallels from Babylonian texts could be given.

It’s just interesting that the number 7 which represents God’s completion is found as a multiple associated to Enoch and Jesus in the genealogical record. Just a little prophetic food for thought. Some more prophetic food for thought is the fact the law had not been given. Something to consider for yourself is the fact that Enoch since the law had not been given in the sense we know it today in the Bible was a spiritual type of Gentile so to speak. Again this is something to consider for yourself. However the application of this does not contradict the fact that there are descendants of Japheth after the flood which are considered to be the grand fathers of the Gentile nations. They have a promise to share and enlarge the tents of Shem’s descendants. Well let’s say for those who choose to accept the invitation.
Gen 9:23-27 KJV And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. (24) And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. (25) And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. (26) And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. (27) God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Enoch is very dedicated to both learning and teaching about the Lord. Enoch we must remember was translated prior to the flood. This means he no doubt was aware of the problems God describes for us in the flood.
Gen 6:1-7 KJV And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, (2) That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. (3) And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (4) There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (5) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (6) And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (7) And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

There are times no doubt when we are witnessing or even studying scripture with some folks a question sometimes comes up. That question usually centering around the “lost books of the Bible”. When it comes to any extra biblical resources we must always pray for a gift of discernment. The ability to discern does this flow with what our Bible teaches us or not? However these things being said let’s look into the apocryphal writings of the Ethiopian book of Enoch. This is an online translation. This particular chapter verse is exactly where Jude is talking about. We must remember that God knows what we have to study with and placed it front of us for discernment. The reference made to the prophetic teachings of Enoch had to have a source either by oral to written traditions through biblical history.
Now let’s explore the passage from Jude in the Bible in its entirety.
Jud 1:1-25 KJV Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: (2) Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. (3) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (4) For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (5) I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. (6) And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (7) Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. When exploring this and praying for discernment it’s easy to see that what we have quoted from Enoch flows in direct relationship with scripture of Jude. This is the type of discernment we must use from time to time.
Psa 9:1-9 KJV To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. (2) I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. (3) When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. (4) For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. (5) Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. (6) O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. (7) But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. (8) And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. (9) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

(8) Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. (9) For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Just a couple of passages from the Psalms that also flow together.
In any event let’s consider what we know about Enoch that brings pictures of Jesus to mind. Not only in personal characteristics but as we have discovered in scripture itself. The passages from Jude coupled with the passage from the Ethiopian book of Enoch are examples of prophecy given at a time when there was nothing but wickedness beginning to take control of the world. Again we will look at the Ethiopian book of Enoch first.
Now we can take another look at Jude’s message concerning Enoch.

So for starters we have a prophecy from a man named Enoch who lived between the years 622 after creation to the year 987. Then he is taken alive into heaven. Enoch lived until he reached 365 years of age and received a ticket out of this world alive. The translation of Enoch was 669 years prior to the flood. This is kind of interesting to some perhaps that from the time Enoch was taken Methuselah lived exactly another 669 years. In other words Enoch was caught up with God the 300th year of Methuselah’s life.

Gen 5:27 KJV And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
This is how we know that Methuselah lived an additional 669 years. This may not mean much to most but there is a very interesting quality to these amounts of years. An interesting note possibly is the fact that Methuselah was the oldest man who ever lived according to the numbers provided by the Bible. Shortly after his death is when the flood began. However we will not develop an entire study based on math or the book of Enoch at this time. For now let’s just say if you should spend some time reading the book of Enoch there are many allusions to the facts given in Genesis 6 concerning the flood. There are details you could say concerning the giants and the evil spirits which produced them.

(16) Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: (17) Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
1Pe 3:17-22 KJV For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. (18) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (19) By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; (20) Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. (21) The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (22) Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
We have these reminders and many more we could explore at some point in time telling us that what we see going on all around us through imaginations gone wild, violence, corruption etc…
Gen 6:11-12 KJV The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. (12) And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Enoch’s mission with God may not be over yet. Many people believe that Enoch will be 1 of the 2 witnesses that are found in the following passage from Revelation. To be fair and honest many people feel it will be Moses. The other we know from scripture will be Elijah. He also went into heaven alive and we will be exploring his example to us in the form of being caught up alive into heaven as well.
Mal 4:1-6 KJV For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. (2) But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. (3) And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. (4) Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. (5) Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: (6) And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

You are always disposed to go further through chapter 11. However for the sake of our study at present we want to keep more emphasis on the translation of Enoch. We will study in depth at some point in the future the rest of the prophecy of the 2 witnesses and their outcome.
Enoch was known for his testimony. He shared a little bit in common with Jesus in this regard. Just as Enoch prophesied about the Lord’s return he may very well be 1 of those 2 witnesses bringing forth to the world the testimony of Jesus. As we prepare to close let’s explore a few passages to tie some things we know from scripture together.

As we can see there are many different ways the word walked can be applied. All would seem to fit what we know about Enoch.

There are some common qualities between Enoch and Jesus. Enoch was a zealot for learning the ways of God. This made him a great teacher of righteousness. Enoch and Jesus share the same genealogical history as well. In Luke’s genealogy we can discover an interesting pattern.

Luk 3:37-38 KJV Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, (38) Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
If my math is correct Jesus is the 77th in the list of names. What does this have to do with anything? Perhaps not much but it should be stressed that Enoch as Jude tells us was the 7th in the list from Adam. Let’s look at a little portion of the ISBE concerning the ritual uses of the number 7. In the for what it’s worth department there are 70 generations between each of them. As we sometimes discover especially with prophetic studies the number 70 had a special significance.

It’s just interesting that the number 7 which represents God’s completion is found as a multiple associated to Enoch and Jesus in the genealogical record. Just a little prophetic food for thought. Some more prophetic food for thought is the fact the law had not been given. Something to consider for yourself is the fact that Enoch since the law had not been given in the sense we know it today in the Bible was a spiritual type of Gentile so to speak. Again this is something to consider for yourself. However the application of this does not contradict the fact that there are descendants of Japheth after the flood which are considered to be the grand fathers of the Gentile nations. They have a promise to share and enlarge the tents of Shem’s descendants. Well let’s say for those who choose to accept the invitation.
Gen 9:23-27 KJV And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. Enoch is very dedicated to both learning and teaching about the Lord. Enoch we must remember was translated prior to the flood. This means he no doubt was aware of the problems God describes for us in the flood.
Gen 6:1-7 KJV And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, (2) That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. (3) And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (4) There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (5) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (6) And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (7) And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
There are times no doubt when we are witnessing or even studying scripture with some folks a question sometimes comes up. That question usually centering around the “lost books of the Bible”. When it comes to any extra biblical resources we must always pray for a gift of discernment. The ability to discern does this flow with what our Bible teaches us or not? However these things being said let’s look into the apocryphal writings of the Ethiopian book of Enoch. This is an online translation. This particular chapter verse is exactly where Jude is talking about. We must remember that God knows what we have to study with and placed it front of us for discernment. The reference made to the prophetic teachings of Enoch had to have a source either by oral to written traditions through biblical history.
Chapter 2
1Behold, he comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon them, and destroy the wicked, and reprove all the carnal for everything which the sinful and ungodly have done, and committed against him. Now let’s explore the passage from Jude in the Bible in its entirety.
Jud 1:1-25 KJV Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: (2) Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. (3) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (4) For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (5) I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. (6) And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (19) These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. When exploring this and praying for discernment it’s easy to see that what we have quoted from Enoch flows in direct relationship with scripture of Jude. This is the type of discernment we must use from time to time.
Psa 9:1-9 KJV To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. (2) I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. (3) When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. (4) For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. (5) Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. (6) O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. (7) But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. (8) And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. (9) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Psa 37:1-10 KJV A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. (2) For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. (3) Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. (4) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (5) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (6) And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (7) Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (8) Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. (9) For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Just a couple of passages from the Psalms that also flow together.
In any event let’s consider what we know about Enoch that brings pictures of Jesus to mind. Not only in personal characteristics but as we have discovered in scripture itself. The passages from Jude coupled with the passage from the Ethiopian book of Enoch are examples of prophecy given at a time when there was nothing but wickedness beginning to take control of the world. Again we will look at the Ethiopian book of Enoch first.
Chapter 2
1Behold, he comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon them, and destroy the wicked, and reprove all the carnal for everything which the sinful and ungodly have done, and committed against him. Now we can take another look at Jude’s message concerning Enoch.
So for starters we have a prophecy from a man named Enoch who lived between the years 622 after creation to the year 987. Then he is taken alive into heaven. Enoch lived until he reached 365 years of age and received a ticket out of this world alive. The translation of Enoch was 669 years prior to the flood. This is kind of interesting to some perhaps that from the time Enoch was taken Methuselah lived exactly another 669 years. In other words Enoch was caught up with God the 300th year of Methuselah’s life.

This is how we know that Methuselah lived an additional 669 years. This may not mean much to most but there is a very interesting quality to these amounts of years. An interesting note possibly is the fact that Methuselah was the oldest man who ever lived according to the numbers provided by the Bible. Shortly after his death is when the flood began. However we will not develop an entire study based on math or the book of Enoch at this time. For now let’s just say if you should spend some time reading the book of Enoch there are many allusions to the facts given in Genesis 6 concerning the flood. There are details you could say concerning the giants and the evil spirits which produced them.
Mat 24:35-39 KJV Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (36) But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (37) But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (38) For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, (39) And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Job 22:12-17 KJV Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! (13) And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? (14) Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven. (15) Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? (16) Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: (17) Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
1Pe 3:17-22 KJV For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. (18) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (19) By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; (20) Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. (21) The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (22) Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
We have these reminders and many more we could explore at some point in time telling us that what we see going on all around us through imaginations gone wild, violence, corruption etc…
Gen 6:11-12 KJV The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. (12) And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Enoch’s mission with God may not be over yet. Many people believe that Enoch will be 1 of the 2 witnesses that are found in the following passage from Revelation. To be fair and honest many people feel it will be Moses. The other we know from scripture will be Elijah. He also went into heaven alive and we will be exploring his example to us in the form of being caught up alive into heaven as well.
Mal 4:1-6 KJV For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. (2) But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. (3) And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. (4) Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. (5) Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: (6) And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
You are always disposed to go further through chapter 11. However for the sake of our study at present we want to keep more emphasis on the translation of Enoch. We will study in depth at some point in the future the rest of the prophecy of the 2 witnesses and their outcome.
Enoch was known for his testimony. He shared a little bit in common with Jesus in this regard. Just as Enoch prophesied about the Lord’s return he may very well be 1 of those 2 witnesses bringing forth to the world the testimony of Jesus. As we prepare to close let’s explore a few passages to tie some things we know from scripture together.
