The Sign of Jonah

Mat 12:38-42 KJV  Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.  (39)  But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:  (40)  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.  (41)  The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.  (42)  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

The People of Nineveh Repent

Jon 3:6-10 KJV  For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.  (7)  And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:  (8)  But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.  (9)  Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?  (10)  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jonah's Anger and the Lord's Compassion

Jon 4:1-11 KJV  But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.  (2)  And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.  (3)  Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.  (4)  Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?  (5)  So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.  (6)  And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.  (7)  But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.  (8)  And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.  (9)  And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.  (10)  Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:  (11)  And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Jonah gets angry over ABBA Father’s decision to spare the Gentile megalopolis. We touched on this a little in our last get together. We also briefly looked into the situation as Lord Yeshua/Jesus chose to teach to us. 

Woe to Unrepentant Cities

Mat 11:20-24 KJV  Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:  (21)  Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.  (22)  But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.  (23)  And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.  (24)  But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida

Mar 8:22-26 KJV  And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.  (23)  And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.  (24)  And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.  (25)  After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.  (26)  And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

Both Tyre or Tyrus and Zidon or Sidon were cities destroyed by Babylon with permission granted by ABBA Father. They were both cities which had dealings with ABBA Father’s chosen people. Tyre was a city which provided many materials and laborers in the building of the temple. Actually both cities provided resources. 

The city of Zidon also was a location that ABBA Father sent the prophet Elijah to. 

The Widow of Zarephath

1Ki 17:8-16 KJV  And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,  (9)  Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.  (10)  So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.  (11)  And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.  (12)  And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.  (13)  And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.  (14)  For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.  (15)  And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.  (16)  And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

This leads us to another miracle Lord Yeshua/Jesus shared with another prophet. That being raising someone who has fallen asleep.

Elijah Raises the Widow's Son

1Ki 17:17-24 KJV  And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.  (18)  And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?  (19)  And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.  (20)  And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?  (21)  And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.  (22)  And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.  (23)  And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.  (24)  And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

However as with what seems all things there are changes that come about. 

Solomon's Other Acts

1Ki 9:10-15 KJV  And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king's house,  (11)  (Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.  (12)  And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.  (13)  And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.  (14)  And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.  (15)  And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

David Prepares for Temple Building

1Ch 22:2-5 KJV  And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.  (3)  And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;  (4)  Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.  (5)  And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

In Psalm 83 a passage we developed in our journeys through Ezekiel38 and 39 Tyre has become the enemy. They are part of the conspiracy of many nations against Israel. 

O God, Do Not Keep Silence

Psa 83:1-10 KJV  A Song or Psalm of Asaph. Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.  (2)  For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.  (3)  They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.  (4)  They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.  (5)  For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:  (6)  The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;  (7)  Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;  (8)  Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.  (9)  Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:  (10)  Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

One of the oldest prophecies given to both cities is found in Isaiah 23.

An Oracle Concerning Tyre and Sidon

Isa 23:1-6 KJV  The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.  (2)  Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.  (3)  And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.  (4)  Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.  (5)  As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.  (6)  Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.

Isa 23:7-11 KJV  Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.  (8)  Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?  (9)  The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.  (10)  Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.  (11)  He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

Isa 23:12-16 KJV  And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.  (13)  Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.  (14)  Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.  (15)  And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.  (16)  Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

Isa 23:17-18 KJV  And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.  (18)  And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

We are bringing this up because Lord Yeshua /Jesus gave the warning to the unrepentant cities as we opened up with.

Lord Yeshua/Jesus compares Chorazin and Bethsaida to Tyre and Sidon. He goes on to make a comparison of Capernaum to Sodom. These are very heavy messages to the people to repent. Also as we explored in our last get together there are going to be people refusing to do so right up until the new heaven and the new earth are upon us. 

Aside from a message to repent the message becomes what else do you need to see? We have explored hundreds of times how easy it is for people in general to forget. One passage of scripture we detailed in our journeys in the acharon is Psalm 78. A passage which takes us through the miraculous history that Israel shared with ABBA Father. 

The Cup of the Lord's Wrath

Jer 25:15-22 KJV  For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.  (16)  And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.  (17)  Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:  (18)  To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;  (19)  Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;  (20)  And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,  (21)  Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,  (22)  And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,

Babylon basically controlled everything you see at the end of this passage of scripture. Today we are not redeveloping these things. We just want to demonstrate the magnitude that Lord Yeshua/Jesus stressed upon the unrepentant cities. The cities of Tyre, Zidon and Sodom were all destroyed. Sodom of course destroyed by the ABBA Father Himself. 

Of course for the journeys we have been exploring here in this series concerning Lord Yeshua/Jesus and Jonah the example is set by Nineveh. That the degree of repentance that Nineveh performed is what will be needed for the cities seeing our Lord and Savior’s miracles and forgetting. Amen!!

As we explored previously Jonah was disappointed because ABBA Father elected not to destroy Nineveh. We compared this to how many of the people in Lord Yeshua/Jesus’ ministry refused to recognize a Messiah that was not a warrior. Come to destroy the Romans and all other Gentiles. 

Jonah's Anger and the Lord's Compassion

Jonah 4:4

And the Lord said, Doest thou well to be angry? - o God, being appealed to, answers the appeal. So does He often in prayer, by some secret voice, answer the inquirer. There is right anger against the sin. Moses’ anger was right, when he broke the tables. Exo_32:19. God secretly suggests to Jonah that his anger was not right, as our Lord instructed Luk_9:55. James and John that “theirs” was not. The question relates to the quality, not to the greatness of his anger. It was not the vehemence of his passionate desire for Israel, which God reproves, but that it was turned against the Ninevites . “What the Lord says to Jonah, he says to all, who in their office of the cure of souls are angry. They must, as to this same anger, be recalled into themselves, to regard the cause or object of their anger, and weigh warily and attentively whether they “do well to be angry.” For if they are angry, not with men but with the sins of men, if they hate and persecute, not men, but the vices of men, they are rightly angry, their zeal is good. But if they are angry, not with sins but with men, if they hate, not vices but men, they are angered amiss, their zeal is bad. This then which was said to one, is to be watchfully looked to and decided by all, ‘Doest thou well to be angry? ‘“

Jon 4:5 KJV  So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

Jonah 4:5

So Jonah went out of the city - o, The form of the words implies (as in the English Version), that this took place after Jonah was convinced that God would spare Nineveh; and since there is no intimation that he knew it by revelation, then it was probably after the 40 days . “The days being now past, after which it was time that the things foretold should be accomplished, and His anger as yet taking no effect, Jonah understood that God had pity on Nineveh. Still he does not give up all hope, and thinks that a respite of the evil has been granted them on their willingness to repent, but that some effect of His displeasure would come, since the pains of their repentance bad not equalled their offences. So thinking in himself apparently, he departs from the city, and waits to see what will become of them.” “He expected” apparently “that it would either fall by an earthquake, or be burned with fire, like Sodom” . “Jonah, in that he built him a tabernale and sat over against Nineveh, awaiting what should happen to it, wore a different, foresignifying character. For he prefigured the carnal people of Israel. For these too were sad at the salvation of the Ninevites, i. e., the redemption and deliverance of the Gentiles. Whence Christ came to call, not the righteous but sinners to repentance. But the over-shadowing gourd over his head was the promises of the Old Testament or those offices in which, as the apostle says, there was a shadow of good things to come, protecting them in the land of promise from temporal evils; all which are now emptied and faded. Jonah 4:7

When the morning rose - , i. e., in the earliest dawn, before the actual sunrise. For one day Jonah enjoyed the refreshment of the palm-christ. In early dawn, it still promised the shadow; just ere it was most needed, at God’s command, it withered.

Jonah 4:8

God prepared a vehement - o (The English margin following the Chaldee, “silent,” i. e., “sultry”).

East wind - The winds in the East, blowing over the sand-deserts, intensely increase the distress of the heat. A sojourner describes on two occasions an Assyrian summer . “The change to summer had been as rapid as that which ushered in the spring. The verdure of the plain had perished almost in a day. Hot winds, coming from the desert, had burned up and carried away the shrubs. The heat was now almost intolerable. Violent whirl-winds occasionally swept over the face of the country.” “The spring was now fast passing away; the heat became daily greater; the grain was cut; and the plains and hills put on their summer clothing of dull parched yellow. “The pasture is withered, the herbage faileth; the green grass is not.” It was the season too of the Sherghis, or burning winds from the south, which occasionally swept over the face of the country, driving in their short-lived fury everything before them.

The sun beat upon the head of Jonah - o. “Few European travelers can brave the perpendicular rays of an Assyrian sun. Even the well-seasoned Arab seeks the shade during the day, and journeys by night, unless driven forth at noontide by necessity, or the love of war.”

He wished in himself to die - (literally he asked as to his soul, to die). He prayed for death. It was still the same dependence upon God, even in his self-will. He did not complain, but prayed God to end his life here. When men are already vexed in soul by deep inward griefs, a little thing often oversets patience. Jonah’s hopes had been revived by the mercy of the palm-christ; they perished with it. Perhaps he had before him the thought of his great predecessor, Elijah, how he too wished to die, when it seemed that his mission was fruitless. They differed in love. Elijah’s preaching, miracles, toil, sufferings, seemed to him, not only to be in vain, but (as they must, if in vain), to add to the guilt of his people. God corrected him too, by showing him his own short-sightedness, that he knew not of “the seven thousand who had not bowed their knees unto Baal,” who were, in part, doubtless, “the travail of his soul.” Jonah’s mission to his people seemed also to be fruitless; his hopes for their well-being were at an end; the temporal mercies of which he had been the prophet, were exhausted; Nineveh was spared; his last hope was gone; the future scourge of his people was maintained in might. The soul shrinks into itself at the sight of the impending visitation of its country. But Elijah’s zeal was “for” his people only and the glory of God in it, and so it was pure love. Jonah’s was directed “against” the Ninevites, and so had to be purified.

Jonah was unhappy at the great city receiving ABBA Father’s mercy. This is what Lord Yeshua/Jesus wanted for the world more than anything. So we have another major contrast to what went on with Lord Yeshua/Jesus. Lord Yeshua/Jesus wanted love and peace more than all other things for all of us.

I Am the True Vine

Again we see the comparison and contrast to what Jonah and Lord Yeshua/Jesus went through and the results. We have discovered so much more than meets the surface meaning when Lord Yeshua/ Jesus talks to us about Jonah. 

Perhaps that is why the end of the passage according to ABBA Father has such significant meaning as to what His 1 and only Son Lord Yeshua/Jesus does for mankind. 

Mat 27:24-26 KJV  When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.  (25)  Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.  (26)  Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked

The Crucifixion

The Death of Jesus

John the Baptist Prepares the Way

The Baptism of Jesus

Jonah Goes to Nineveh

Jon 3:1-5 KJV  And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,  (2)  Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.  (3)  So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.  (4)  And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.  (5)  So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

At this point we will go ahead and say hello friends. We are at the point in Jonah where he finally delivers the message he was sent with to Nineveh. It takes only 1 day. If you had just been vomited out of the belly of a whale you would probably be a little anxious as well. Amen!

In our intro passages we read how John the Baptist was preaching for the people to repent just as Jonah. We also see John give a warning to the people concerning the chaff. 

Mat 3:2 KJV  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mat 3:11-12 KJV  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:  (12)  Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Now the differences being that John was preaching to the Hebrew people. Jonah of course to Nineveh. Jonah had his message heard by everyone to include the king. 

The People of Nineveh Repent

Jon 3:6-10 KJV  For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.  (7)  And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:  (8)  But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.  (9)  Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?  (10)  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

In the case of John and Lord Yeshua/Jesus the people were more than willing but the politicians of the day in Israel were not. We can also mention that in both cases of Jonah and Lord Yeshua/Jesus mercy was involved. This brings us into a another strange parallel. 

Many people in Lord Yeshua/Jesus’  first coming did not believe He was the Messiah because He was not a great military leader come to kick the crap out of the Romans and the rest of the Gentiles. Jonah becomes angered because ABBA Father chose mercy for Nineveh who in his eyes were a bunch of renegade heathens. Just a strange irony that came to us as we read through these things. 

The Temptation of Jesus

Mat 4:1-4 KJV  Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  (2)  And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.  (3)  And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.  (4)  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Remember the Lord Your God

This is another thing that Lord Yeshua/Jesus and Jonah have in common. They both carried a message of repentance. Jonah to 1 of the largest cities on earth in his day. Lord Yeshua/Jesus starting with Israel and then the entire world. Lord Yeshua /Jesus speaks a lot about this subject in the gospel of Luke. 

The word repent in this form is of course a verb. It appears in the whole of the NT 34 times as stated above. It’s found 14 times among the gospels and the book of Acts. Lord Yeshua gets credit for 14 of these. With 1 repetition so He actually says the word 13 times. He starts His ministry with the following verse from both Matthew and Mark immediately after His baptism and temptation.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

In Luke 13 Lord Yeshua/Jesus uses the word 5 times.

Repent or Perish

Luk 13:1-5 KJV  There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.  (2)  And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?  (3)  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.  (4)  Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?  (5)  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Repent or perish. A person cannot get much more clarity than that. This was the basic message Jonah carried to the city of Nineveh.

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

Luk 13:6-9 KJV  He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.  (7)  Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?  (8)  And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:  (9)  And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

When we become familiar enough with the scripture it’s easy to understand that Lord Yeshua/Jesus is talking about Himself. Jesus’ ministry lasted 3 ½ years. This is the same amount of time which divides the tribulation period in half. The first half we know as the tribulation the last half known as the great tribulation. 

Lord Yeshua/Jesus came to find His people of Israel which is the fruit. As we know He did not find any. As we know also ABBA Father did indeed cut down the nation of Israel. The result of this being a fulfillment of the following.

Psa 18:43 KJV  Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.

Psa 102:16-22 KJV  When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.  (17)  He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.  (18)  This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.  (19)  For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth;  (20)  To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;  (21)  To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;  (22)  When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

Isa 42:1-9 KJV  Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.  (2)  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.  (3)  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.  (4)  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.  (5)  Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:  (6)  I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;  (7)  To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.  (8)  I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.  (9)  Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

The Servant of the Lord

Isa 49:1-7 KJV  Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.  (2)  And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;  (3)  And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.  (4)  Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.  (5)  And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.  (6)  And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.  (7)  Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

The Future Glory of Israel

Isa 60:1-3 KJV  Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.  (2)  For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.  (3)  And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Another passage we have explored quite a bit also tells us of the connection to the Gentiles. It’s a passage which we have explored with regard to the 7 spirits of ABBA Father that Lord Yeshua /Jesus will be judging with. 

The Righteous Reign of the Branch

Isa 11:1-6 KJV  And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:  (2)  And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;  (3)  And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:  (4)  But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.  (5)  And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.  (6)  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isa 11:7-10 KJV  And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  (8)  And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.  (9)  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.  (10)  And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

The Eternal Covenant of Peace

Isa 54:1-8 KJV  Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.  (2)  Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;  (3)  For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.  (4)  Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.  (5)  For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.  (6)  For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.  (7)  For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.  (8)  In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

This is a prophetic passage which takes us all the way back to the days of Noah. 

Isa 54:9-17 KJV  For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.  (10)  For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.  (11)  O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.  (12)  And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.  (13)  And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.  (14)  In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.  (15)  Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.  (16)  Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.  (17)  No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Gen 9:20-29 KJV  And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:  (21)  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.  (22)  And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.  (23)  And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.  (24)  And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.  (25)  And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.  (26)  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.  (27)  God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.  (28)  And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.  (29)  And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

We oddly enough have another parallel to Jonah with this scenario as well. Jonah was traveling with Gentiles. We know this because every man was calling upon their respective gods. 

Jon 1:5-6 KJV  Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.  (6)  So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

However as we know by the time these men were through with their ordeal they appear to be converts to the 1 true and only ABBA Father. 

Jon 1:13-16 KJV  Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.  (14)  Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.  (15)  So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.  (16)  Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

These men were smart enough to recognize the power of the 1 true ABBA Father. This brings us to another contrast to the world we are living in today. The crisis for lack of better words on this ship leads these men to the recognition. 

However as we start to close this journey out we read and understand that there are many people no matter the circumstances that will refuse to acknowledge ABBA Father and His 1 and only Son and heir Lord Yeshua/Jesus. 

We will pick back up with the subject of repentance. 

As we mentioned above and have in many other journeys Isaiah 11 informs us what we will be judged by. Those being the 7 spirits of ABBA Father.  

Greeting to the Seven Churches

Rev 1:4-8 KJV  John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;  (5)  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,  (6)  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.  (7)  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.  (8)  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

To the Church in Thyatira

Rev 2:18-21 KJV  And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;  (19)  I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.  (20)  Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.  (21)  And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

Rev 9:14-21 KJV  Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.  (15)  And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.  (16)  And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.  (17)  And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.  (18)  By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.  (19)  For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.  (20)  And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:  (21)  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

The Seven Bowls of God's Wrath

Rev 16:1-6 KJV  And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.  (2)  And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.  (3)  And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.  (4)  And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.  (5)  And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.  (6)  For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Rev 16:7-11 KJV  And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.  (8)  And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.  (9)  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.  (10)  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,  (11)  And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Rev 16:12-16 KJV  And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.  (13)  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.  (14)  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.  (15)  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.  (16)  And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

If you noticed there is 1 big difference between the people involved with Jonah and the world we know now which will be dealing with ABBA Father and Lord Yeshua/Jesus. That big difference being that the world today is not so willing to repent. 

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

Joh 14:1-4 KJV  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  (2)  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  (3)  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.  (4)  And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Joh 14:5-7 KJV  Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?  (6)  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  (7)  If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Joh 14:8-14 KJV  Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  (9)  Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?  (10)  Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.  (11)  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.  (12)  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.  (13)  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  (14)  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Rev 22:7 KJV  Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Rev 22:12-13 KJV  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.  (13)  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
