Welcome to the World of Biblical Prophecy for History and Today

This Blog is intended to help myself and others gain the best understanding of the world around us through exploration of prophetic scripture. The Bible is the text book. Through these studies we will hopefully provide understanding to both believer and unbeliever alike. The way our God and our Savior Jesus distinguish themselves in the spiritual world is through prophetic means. In other words what the Bible teaches us through fullfillment of these prophecies shows us the truth. Let's take some prophetic journeys through history and at the same time learn about the world around us today. Please try and be patient with any typographical errors as I am my own typist and my own research staff. Thanks

The Ways of Visitation Famines Long Ago and Not Far Away Signs of The End of The Age

The Ways of Visitation
Famines Long Ago and Not Far Away
Signs of The End of The Age

Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

Psa 119:169-176 KJV  TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.  (170)  Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.  (171)  My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes.  (172)  My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.  (173)  Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.  (174)  I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.  (175)  Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.  (176)  I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

Ecc 1:9-11 KJV  The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.  (10)  Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.  (11)  There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Ecc 3:14-15 KJV  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.  (15)  That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

Ecc 3:16 KJV  And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

Luk 19:41-44 KJV  And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,  (42)  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.  (43)  For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,  (44)  And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Mat 24:4-8 KJV  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.  (5)  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.  (6)  And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  (7)  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.  (8)  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Mat 24:19 KJV  And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

Mar 13:7-8 KJV  And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.  (8)  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Mar 13:17 KJV  But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

Luk 21:10-11 KJV  Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:  (11)  And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luk 21:23 KJV  But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

Curses for Disobedience

Deu 28:15-19 JPS  But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee.  (16)  Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.  (17)  Cursed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough.  (18)  Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the young of thy flock.  (19)  Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

Hello again friends. We are combining our looks into visitations with the signs of the end of the age. The signs of the end of the age are different ways that ABBA Father warns us about a big event. The big event is the return of our Lord Yeshua/Jesus. As a matter of fact these signs we can say are visitations to themselves perhaps with some exceptions of wars. Friends we are living in a time frame Lord Yeshua/Jesus calls the beginnings of sorrows. As a matter of fact we are well into the days.

Here at the ministry we feel that the pestilence described is being felt in the form of the church trying to rebound. Here in our area many churches never stopped worshiping. There are some though that are having trouble if not gone completely. Enough for this right now as we are going to explore famines in scripture.

Famines are found throughout scripture. They had effects on folks from Abraham to Lord Yeshua/Jesus‘ time. In as much as word searches go the word famine is found only in the singular in the OT. The only time in the entire Bible it is found in plural are in the signs of the end of the age given by Lord Yeshua/Jesus.

The word famine itself in our search came up 96 times. This is the same as 8 x 12 which some might say is the number of new beginnings by the number of completeness. It could always be a coincidence. In any event we will begin our exploration of famines in scripture.

The Call of Abram

Gen 12:1-9 KJV  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:  (2)  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  (3)  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.  (4)  So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.  (5)  And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.  (6)  And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.  (7)  And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.  (8)  And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.  (9)  And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

Abram and Sarai in Egypt

Gen 12:10-13 KJV  And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.  (11)  And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:  (12)  Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.  (13)  Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

Gen 12:14-20 KJV  And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.  (15)  The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.  (16)  And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.  (17)  And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.  (18)  And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?  (19)  Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.  (20)  And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

Albert Barnes made an interesting observation about what happened here. The following is an excerpt from his Notes on the Bible.

If Abram is about to enter Egypt of his own accord, without any divine intimation, it is easy to understand why he resorts to a device of his own to escape the peril of assassination. In an arbitrary government, where the will of the sovereign is law, and the passions are uncontrolled, public or private resolve is sudden, and execution summary. The East still retains its character in this respect. In these circumstances, Abram proposes to Sarai to conceal their marriage, and state that she was his sister; which was perfectly true, as she was the daughter of his father, though not of his mother.

Now whether or not this was alright with ABBA Father only ABBA Father knows. We can say this much. That whether it was alright or not for Abram to lie ABBA Father did not hold back on His blessings for Abraham as he went on to become. We should stress that the law has not been given at this point in biblical history.

Gen 26:1-5 KJV  And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.  (2)  And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:  (3)  Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;  (4)  And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;  (5)  Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Isaac and Abimelech

Gen 26:6-11 KJV  And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:  (7)  And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.  (8)  And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.  (9)  And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.  (10)  And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.  (11)  And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

Gen 26:12-14 KJV  Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.  (13)  And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:  (14)  For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

Then of course there was a famine that hit during Jacob’s days as well. This particular famine was the most important to the overall salvation of mankind. A famine that reunited the tribes of Israel while Joseph lived in Egypt.

Gen 41:28-33 KJV  This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.  (29)  Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:  (30)  And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;  (31)  And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.  (32)  And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.  (33)  Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

Gen 41:34-36 KJV  Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.  (35)  And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.  (36)  And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

Joseph Rises to Power

Gen 41:37-41 KJV  And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.  (38)  And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?  (39)  And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:  (40)  Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.  (41)  And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

Gen 41:42-45 KJV  And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;  (43)  And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.  (44)  And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.  (45)  And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph Provides for His Brothers and Family

Gen 45:1-7 KJV  Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.  (2)  And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.  (3)  And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.  (4)  And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.  (5)  Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.  (6)  For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.  (7)  And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

Gen 45:8-11 KJV  So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.  (9)  Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:  (10)  And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:  (11)  And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.

Gen 45:12-16 KJV  And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you.  (13)  And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.  (14)  And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.  (15)  Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.  (16)  And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.

Gen 45:17-20 KJV  And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan;  (18)  And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.  (19)  Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.  (20)  Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.

This famine reunited Joseph with his father Jacob and his 12 brothers. If this had not occurred many prophecies could not have been fulfilled. We will list a few.

Gen 12:1-4 KJV  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:  (2)  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  (3)  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.  (4)  So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Gen 15:12-14 KJV  And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.  (13)  And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;  (14)  And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

Joseph's Dreams

Gen 37:3-8 KJV  Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.  (4)  And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.  (5)  And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.  (6)  And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:  (7)  For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.  (8)  And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

Gen 37:9-11 KJV  And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.  (10)  And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?  (11)  And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

Just to name a few prophecies that this famine helped fulfill. Friends if Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not above famine there is no need for any one particularly Christians to believe we are. However as we also have explored ABBA Father took care of His own.

Lev 26:18-20 KJV  And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.  (19)  And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:  (20)  And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

Deu 28:23-24 KJV  And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.  (24)  The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

Another instance where famine played the exact same role as Jacob’s was in the days of Ruth. The reason we say that the role they play is the same because they each continued a blood line. A blood line of ABBA Father’s plan of salvation for mankind.

Naomi Widowed

Rth 1:1-5 KJV  Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.  (2)  And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.  (3)  And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.  (4)  And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.  (5)  And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.

Ruth's Loyalty to Naomi

Rth 1:6-9 KJV  Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.  (7)  Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.  (8)  And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.  (9)  The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.

Rth 1:10-14 KJV  And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.  (11)  And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?  (12)  Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;  (13)  Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.  (14)  And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

Rth 1:15-18 KJV  And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.  (16)  And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:  (17)  Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.  (18)  When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

Naomi and Ruth Return

Rth 1:19-22 KJV  So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?  (20)  And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.  (21)  I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?  (22)  So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

Rth 1:20 KJV  And she said unto them, Call me not NaomiH5281, call me MaraH4755: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

H5281
נָעֳמִי
no‛ŏmı̂y
no-om-ee'
From H5278; pleasant; Noomi, an Israelitess: - Naomi.
Total KJV occurrences: 21

H4755
מָרָא
mârâ'
maw-raw'
For H4751 feminine; bitter; Mara, a symbolical name of Naomi: - Mara.
Total KJV occurrences: 1

Naomi as we see had a name that meant pleasantness. As she states she was dealt with pretty hard by ABBA Father. We must keep in mind that the famine set the events in motion for her return to Bethlehem.

Ruth Meets Boaz

Rth 2:1-7 KJV  And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.  (2)  And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.  (3)  And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.  (4)  And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.  (5)  Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?  (6)  And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:  (7)  And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

We will not fully develop Ruth at this time. We will explore the highlights of this relationship.

Rth 2:20-23 KJV  And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.  (21)  And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.  (22)  And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.  (23)  So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.

Rth 4:9-12 KJV  And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.  (10)  Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.  (11)  And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:  (12)  And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

Ruth and Boaz Marry

Rth 4:13-17 KJV  So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.  (14)  And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.  (15)  And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.  (16)  And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.  (17)  And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

The Genealogy of David

Rth 4:18-22 KJV  Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,  (19)  And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,  (20)  And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,  (21)  And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,  (22)  And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.

This was part of the lineage of Lord Yeshua/Jesus.

Mat 1:6-16 KJV  And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;  (7)  And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;  (8)  And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;  (9)  And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;  (10)  And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;  (11)  And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:  (12)  And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;  (13)  And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;  (14)  And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;  (15)  And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;  (16)  And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Our last look into the history of famine in scripture brings us into king David’s reign. How appropriate that the history follows into his reign.

David Avenges the Gibeonites

2Sa 21:1-7 KJV  Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.  (2)  And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)  (3)  Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?  (4)  And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.  (5)  And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,  (6)  Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.  (7)  But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD'S oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

Jos 10:1-4 KJV  Now it came to pass, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;  (2)  That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.  (3)  Wherefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,  (4)  Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

Jos 10:5-8 KJV  Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.  (6)  And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.  (7)  So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.  (8)  And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

Saul betrayed this alliance it is believed. It appears that this famine was sent in response to Israel’s betrayal.

Jos 10:9-14 KJV  Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.  (10)  And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.  (11)  And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.  (12)  Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.  (13)  And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.  (14)  And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

We will close out this journey by looking at 1 miracle in Joshua and Lord Yeshua/Jesus explaining some others. However we are going to put forth this reminder to people. That if this many famines took place to start the birth of our kingdom we should beware of Lord Yeshua/Jesus' warnings. That there will be a number of the same things to round up the kingdom in these last days. Remember every biblical patriarch we explored here encountered a brush with starvation.

Gentiles Grafted In

Rom 11:11-16 KJV  I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.  (12)  Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?  (13)  For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:  (14)  If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.  (15)  For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?  (16)  For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

Rom 11:17-24 KJV  And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;  (18)  Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.  (19)  Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.  (20)  Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:  (21)  For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.  (22)  Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.  (23)  And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.  (24)  For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Mat 21:18-22 KJV  Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.  (19)  And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.  (20)  And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!  (21)  Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.  (22)  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

Mar 11:12-14 KJV  And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:  (13)  And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.  (14)  And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree

Mar 11:20-26 KJV  And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.  (21)  And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.  (22)  And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.  (23)  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.  (24)  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.  (25)  And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.  (26)  But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

This is what happened with Joshua. Joshua from the time Israel left Egypt never doubted ABBA Father’s ability to deliver. We can also do these things as believers today. Our Lord and Savior Yeshua/Jesus provides us with such abilities.

If Your Brother Sins Against You

Mat 18:15-20 KJV  Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.  (16)  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.  (17)  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.  (18)  Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.  (19)  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.  (20)  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Rev 3:11 KJV  Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Rev 22:7 KJV  Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Rev 22:12-13 KJV  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.  (13)  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Rev 22:20 KJV  He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Mic 7:7 KJV  Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
