Psa 5:1-12  To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.  (2)  Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.  (3)  My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.  (4)  For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.  (5)  The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.  (6)  Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.  (7)  But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.  (8)  Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.  (9)  For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.  (10)  Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.  (11)  But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.  (12)  For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Ecc 1:9-11 KJV  The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.  (10)  Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.  (11)  There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Ecc 3:14-15 KJV  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.  (15)  That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

Ecc 3:16-17 KJV  And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.  (17)  I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

Mat 5:17-20 KJV  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  (18)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.  (19)  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.  (20)  For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 5:17 KJV  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The Example of Christ

Rom 15:1-7  We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.  (2)  Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.  (3)  For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.  (4)  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.  (5)  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:  (6)  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (7)  Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Hello again Friends. We have made our way to chapter 13 of Isaiah. This particular chapter and the next 10 approximately are about judgment on foreign nations and powers. Remember we just came out of chapter 12 which was about our deliverance. Let’s look at Isaiah 13.

 The Judgment of Babylon

Isa 13:1-7  The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.  (2)  Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.  (3)  I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.  (4)  The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.  (5)  They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.  (6)  Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.  (7)  Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:

Isa 13:8-12  And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.  (9)  Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.  (10)  For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.  (11)  And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.  (12)  I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

Isa 13:13-17  Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.  (14)  And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.  (15)  Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.  (16)  Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.  (17)  Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

Isa 13:18-22  Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.  (19)  And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.  (20)  It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.  (21)  But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.  (22)  And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

Obviously we are exploring a judgment pertaining to Babylon. What is interesting about this is where we are reading about this in Isaiah. The other interesting aspect to all this is when it was penned by Isaiah. This is all well over 100 years prior to Babylon even invading the promised land. Of course this is all done by ABBA Father. So before ABBA Father allows the Babylonian invasion on Jerusalem He is announcing their punishment.

It appears that Babylon has the attentions of ABBA Father in a very negative way. As we have mentioned many times in numerous other studies that every superpower or empire ABBA Father allowed gets swallowed up by the next until Lord Yeshua’s kingdom is established. Amen!!

Isa 13:2  Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

Although the prophecy does not name these invaders until later in the chapter ABBA Father proclaims His banner or ensign to that nation. We must remember as we go through the study that Isaiah is seeing this as a vision. ABBA Father announces that the massive gates that surround the city will be breached. As we will develop this we will see this is what most certainly happened. If you have read our Daniel Extremity studies then you know who this empire is. 

Isa 13:3  I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.

If you are familiar enough then you know we are dealing with the Medes and Persians. Sort of like the world is dealing with again at this very moment. We have mentioned many times over the years how there are descendants of the Medes and Persians in Iraq today just as they infiltrated Babylon back then. 

These particular nations are not called because they are staunch believers in our ABBA Father. As we read pertaining to the Assyrians they are chosen to be an instrument of ABBA Father’s judgment. It’s amazing that we are given the  demise of Babylon before we are given much information about their invasion. Isaiah’s prophetic history covers the Assyrians dealings with Israel. He tells us about Babylon’s dealings with Israel as we will discover moving through his book. 

According to John Gill’s commentary the mighty ones described here would be Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Persian who was the more powerful of the 2. They were the ruling kings of their respective nations and Cyrus according to Smith’s Dictionary was the founder of the empire. One thing we would like to throw in for now is if you have been reading the foundations of the empires studies is where these nations origins were. The Medes go all the way back to Abraham’s last 6 sons he had by the woman Keturah. 

Gen 25:1-6  Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.  (2)  And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.  (3)  And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.  (4)  And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.  (5)  And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.  (6)  But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

As you can see the Medan and Median came out of this marriage that we are not sure ABBA Father approved of or not. Let’s look at Smith’s Bible Dictionary’s entries for the Medes.

Me'dan. (contention). A son of Abraham and Keturah. Gen_23:5; 1Ch_1:42.

Mid'ian. (strife). A son of Abraham and Keturah, Gen_25:2; 1Ch_1:32, progenitor of the Midianites, or Arabians, dwelling principally in the desert, north of the peninsula of Arabia. Southward, they extended along the eastern shore of the Gulf of Eyleh (Sinus Aelaniticus); and northward, they stretched along the eastern frontier of Palestine. The "land of Midian," the place to which Moses fled after having killed the Egyptian, Exo_2:15; Exo_2:21, or the portion of it, specially referred to, was probably the peninsula of Sinai.

Both of these sons of Abraham go on to become enemies of Isaac. Remember the passage from Genesis tells us that he sent all of these sons off to the east. You know if you have explored our series on “The Acharon” that these are the exact same people that have been brawling, full of strife and contentious with Israel throughout history. The acharon of course meaning the last generation of people facing their enemies to the east.

Ask any teacher familiar with the Hebrew such as Perry Stone  or Bill Cloud and they will tell you something special about this word. That being that it means the last of the last or the final conclusion of things. Most of Israel’s enemies are from the east. Those times are not far away. We never set dates or times.

The Day of the Lord

1Th 5:1-3  But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.  (2)  For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.  (3)  For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travailG5604upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Isa 13:4-5  The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.  (5)  They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

Just as we saw with Assyria as a weapon of ABBA Father’s wrath we seethe same with the Medes and Persians.

At first look at this passage the words of Lord Yeshua regarding the signs of the end of the age comes to mind.

Signs of the End of the Age

Mat 24:3-8  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?  (4)  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.  (5)  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.  (6)  And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  (7)  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.  (8)  All these are the beginning of sorrowsG5604.

The Coming of the Son of Man

Mat 24:29-31  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:  (30)  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  (31)  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

These words will mean a little more possibly as we progress with this journey. 

Isa 13:9  Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

The phrase “day of the Lord” is 31 times throughout both testaments of scripture. We first encountered it in Isaiah chapter 2.

Isa_2:12  For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

We have now encountered it twice here in chapter 13. 

Lam 2:22  Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD'S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.

Eze 30:3  For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.

Joe 1:15  Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Joe 2:1-2  Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;  (2)  A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

Amo 5:18-20  Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.  (19)  As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.  (20)  Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

Zec 14:1-4  Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.  (2)  For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.  (3)  Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.  (4)  And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Act 2:16-21  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;  (17)  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:  (18)  And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:  (19)  And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:  (20)  The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:  (21)  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Once again as we say often concerning Isaiah we can the world he lived in. We often say as well there’s the duality relationship that reaches to the end times.

Rev 17:8  The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the worldG3625, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 

Now let’s make another connection concerning Babylon. 

Rev 14:8  And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Rev 17:5  And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Rev 18:1-2  And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.  (2)  And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

Rev 18:9-10  And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,  (10)  Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Rev 18:21  And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

So actually no matter how we look at things these are the correct interpretations for all the time frames involved. 

Isa 13:15-18  Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.  (16)  Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.  (17)  Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.  (18)  Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

Here in this passage ABBA Father makes the declaration that it will be the Medes and Persians that will carry out the sentencing upon Babylon. The passage also makes clear that they are not motivated by the spoils of war. That they are solely bent on nothing less than conquest of the enemy. 

We can see those parallels regarding Persia then and now. The people governing Iran as we speak are no less cruel or violent. Their plans to dominate the world no less than those in Isaiah’s day. A little earlier we shared a map of the Babylonian empire. We will go ahead and show the Persian empire as well. 

Isa 13:19-22  And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.  (20)  It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.  (21)  But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.  (22)  And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

We want to say something here about the destruction and how it is described here. It is described as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. That is to say it is destroyed in a very major way most likely with the same type of fire ABBA Father used in Genesis. If ABBA Father and Lord Yeshua allow we will hopefully get to study Jeremiah out chapter by chapter. He gives us a passage that is almost identical to what we have described here. 

Jer 50:33-38  Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.  (34)  Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.  (35)  A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.  (36)  A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.  (37)  A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.  (38)  A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

Jer 50:39-43  Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.  (40)  As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.  (41)  Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.  (42)  They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.  (43)  The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

We would have to say that this type of destruction has not yet been accomplished. In addition to this comparison we see that the onslaught is described as birth pains. All connections that seem to point way beyond the destruction of Babylon by the Medes and Persians then as well as what’s coming in the future.

Woe to Unrepentant Cities

Mat 11:20-24  Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:  (21)  Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.  (22)  But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.  (23)  And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.  (24)  But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest

Mat 11:25-30  At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.  (26)  Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.  (27)  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.  (28)  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  (29)  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  (30)  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Not Peace, but a Sword

Mat 10:34-39  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.  (35)  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.  (36)  And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.  (37)  He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.  (38)  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.  (39)  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Wait for the God of Salvation

Mic 7:1-7  Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit.  (2)  The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.  (3)  That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.  (4)  The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.  (5)  Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.  (6)  For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.  (7)  Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
