The 3 Shepherds
Joh 10:1-6 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. (2) But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. (3) To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. (4) And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. (5) And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. Zec 11:8-17 KJV Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me. (9) Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another. (10) And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. (11) And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. (15) And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. (16) For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces. (17) Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Of course there are some possibilities to explore looking at the 3 shepherds ABBA Father are referring to. Verses like these are where we explore a few commentaries and get either opinion or consensus as to their identities. We will list a couple and maybe add a little something else to touch upon.

Theodoret: “He speaks of the kings of the Jews, and prophets and priests; for by the three orders they were shepherded.” Cyril: “The true and good Shepherd having been already pointed out, it was right and necessary that the hirelings and false shepherds should be removed, the guides of the Jews in the law. The three shepherds were, I deem, those who exercised the legal priesthood, and those appointed judges of the people, and the interpreters of Scripture, that is, the lawyers. For these too fed Israel. Those who had the glory of the priesthood were of the tribe of Levi only; and of them Malachi says, “The priest’s lips shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth” Mal_2:7. But those who received authority to judge were also selected, yet were appointed out of every tribe. In like way the lawyers, who were ever assessors to the judges, and adduced the words of the law in proof of every matter.
But we shall find that our Lord Jesus Christ Himself expressly pronounced woe on the Pharisees and scribes and lawyers. For He said, “Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees” Luk_11:44. And when one of the lawyers hereupon answered Him saying, “Master, so saying Thou reproachest us also,” He said, “Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers” Luk_11:45-46. Zechariah 11:8
Three shepherds also I cut off in one month - Taking this literally, some think the three shepherds mean the three Maccabees, Judas, Jonathan, and Simon; others, the three wicked high priests, Jason, Alcimus, and Menelaus; others, the three last princes of the Asmonean race, Alexander, Hyrcanus, and Antigonus.
Perhaps three orders may be intended:
1. The priesthood.
2. The dictatorship, including the Scribes, Pharisees, etc.
3. The magistracy, the great sanhedrin, and the smaller councils
These were all annihilated by the Roman conquest.
Some commentaries might include the leadership such as the kings and princes. However upon looking a little harder at these 3 we discover these were the people that were supposed to be coaching the leaders. Such as Nathaniel with David, Samuel with Saul and so forth.
Herod comes along and splits up the priesthood so there were all kinds of tribes in the priesthood. If you remember ABBA Father designated Levi to be the tribe of the priesthood.

Num 18:1-5 KJV And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood. (2) And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness. (3) And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar, that neither they, nor ye also, die. (4) And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you. (5) And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.
What Herod did was clearly against scripture (of which he has plenty of company) and it showed in the ranks especially pertaining to Yeshua/Jesus.

(10) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (11) Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. As we like to point out when we are in this passage, the priesthood that pertains to being a king and a high priest. This happens no other time in biblical history until Yeshua/Jesus takes the keys. Yeshua/Jesus already High Priest will be returning as a conquering King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen!

The most popular among the scribes we might venture to say is Ezra. Yes we used present tense as the Bible is still presently being read. Ezra as the word tells us was both a priest and scribe.

A little earlier in his book Ezra tells us about Shimshai a scribe from Samaria. A scribe who apparently did not want the tenple rebuilt.

The actions of Shimshai and the others managed to delay the rebuilding of the Lord’s house.
Jer 8:9-11 KJV The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? (10) Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. (11) For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

3. We will combine Barnes’ and Clarke’s commentaries and add the kingship
The magistracy, the great Sanhedrin, and the smaller councils.
After all the kings disappeared as well as the rest of the structures of society. Rome in most people’s opinions did as well if not better than the Babylonians destroying the holy city Jerusalem. As we detailed in some other studies Palestine did not exist until the Roman empire days.
Hadrian was the emperor chosen by whatever demonic forces were at work to rename Israel and Canaan Palestine. This was done as a deliberate slap in the face of the Jewish people. Actually as an attempt to slap Abba Father’s face. Of course this did not work on the spiritual level but it worked very well in the prophetic realm. However Abba Father set things right with the restoration of His chosen nation Israel. More importantly getting control of Jerusalem whether the world likes it or not. There is not much more left to happen until Yeshua/ Jesus returns. AMEN!!

Sanhedrin
SANHEDRIN [SAN hee drun] (a council or assembly) — the highest ruling body and court of justice among the Jewish people in the time of Jesus. Headed by the high priest of Israel, the Sanhedrin was granted limited authority over certain religious, civil, and criminal matters by the foreign nations that dominated the land of Israel at various times in its history. The Sanhedrin was exercising this limited power when it charged Jesus with the crime of blasphemy but then sent him to Pilate, the Roman official, for a formal trial and sentencing.
Mat 10:16-18 KJV Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (17) But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; (18) And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

As we move down the list of different shepherds ABBA Father removes the sins of these leaders gets worse and worse it seems.

Pretty easy to see where all these “shepherds” went wrong is it not?
